We’re one week into the 2015 cod fishing season, and the fishing is GOOD.
The pot boats are hitting it big right now, and it’s looking like their quotas might be filled sooner than was originally thought. If things keep up the way that they are going we could see them finishing up in February. Long-line fishing is open as well, and it looks like the long line boats will be fishing until April. Another wave of fish will hit when the trawl fleet hits the grounds on January 20th. The fish are averaging seven pounds, which is slightly larger than average.
The ‘B’ season will open on September 1st, but quotas won’t be established until the ‘A’ season is completed.
