October is National Seafood Month!
Sometimes it seems we forget the wisdom of our elders. They used to say that “Fish is brain food.” Who knew that modern science would prove that to be right on the mark? As Cyrus Raji, MD, PhD, of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine put it, “More fish, more brain, less Alzheimer’s.”
Whether you prefer salmon, cod, shrimp, halibut, sole, crab, or oysters, remember, they’re all delicious, sustainable and good for you.
And you don’t have to go far to find it. Never have we had it so good – year round availability is the norm. Modern freezing technology means that in many cases frozen is fresher than fresh. Canned seafood is still just as convenient, affordable, and easy to use as ever. On top of that, locavores can rejoice in the fact that the US has the best managed fisheries in the world. So eat your fish!
