Quality Control Technician

Ocean Beauty Seafoods in Naknek, Alaska has an opening for a QC Tech. This position will start June 1st and run through mid-August 2007, which includes the first two weeks of training. We produce millions of pounds of red salmon and process to our customer specifications. You will assist us in making sure we manufacture high quality products.

Duties:

  • Performing sanitation verification before start up each day. Assure that corrective actions are followed through on any deficiencies. Prepare daily reports.
  • Ensure all scales are set accurately with correct amount of tare weight. Ensure employees follow company guidelines i.e. hairnets, uniforms, hand washings, and properly handles all product and follows Good Manufacturing Practice’s.
  • Make certain work areas and equipment are properly sanitized. Other duties require monitoring raw and finished product quality.
  • Perform teardowns of finished product.
  • Checks are done on weights, counts, organoleptic quality, workmanship, dimensions, packaging, coding, and ensure product meets required specifications.
  • Measure and assure that temperature parameters are followed. Follow, reinforce, ands comply with HACCP guidelines.

This position requires strong math skills. Need to be familiar with the basic measurement of weights and temperatures. Must be able to prioritize workload, and work well under pressure despite constant interruptions. Must be accurate on all paperwork. Must have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Must work well as a team. Need to be comfortable addressing QC concerns working with Line Supervisor to correct issues.

Experience preferred but not required. We will train. Position requires long hours with a possibility of no days off through the entire season. Exposure to very cold and warm environments depending on processing area that is being monitored. Ear protection required, as you will work around noisy machinery. Airfare and room/board will be reimbursed as long you successfully complete the season.

Seafood Processors

Our Naknek Facility is currently looking for salmon seafood processors with the spirit of adventure to be a part of our 2007 summer season. The plant employs approximately 300 people working at our shore-based cannery and frozen plant. We are proud to offer a clean, modern, and safe workplace, which operates, from June through early August.

  • Cleaning, gutting, and grading salmon for freezing or canning
  • Sorting, packing, and weighing of salmon
  • Loading vans and cleanup
  • Availability to work the full season required
  • Physically able to stand and work for shifts of up to 16 hours of repetitive motion
  • Tolerance to work in cold, wet and humid conditions
  • Ability to take direction and follow safety rules
  • Dedication to work and get along with others in a diverse workplace

Partial roundtrip transportation cost is provided from Anchorage or Seattle upon successful completion of the season. Housing and meals are provided at no cost to employees who complete the season. The starting wage is $7.15, and $10.72 for overtime. We have a zero tolerance in the use of alcohol or illegal drugs.

Shipping Supervisor

Our Naknek, Alaska office is seeking an energetic self-starter to fill the position as shipping supervisor for our summer season. This is seasonal work during our salmon production. Housing and meals are included with a successful contract completion at the end of the season.

This position involves working with little supervision. It is necessary for the successful applicant to be able to work independently and be very organized. This person must also be highly responsible and willing to work long hours through a project’s completion. Required Skills:

  • Availability to work the full season
  • Leadership skills
  • Team player and able to promote a positive work environment
  • Forklift certification
  • Being able to handle a pallet jack
  • Proficiency in Excel, and record keeping
  • Ability to lift over 50lbs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Desired Skills (preference given to candidates who possess):

  • Prior experience in-charge of shipping
  • Prior seafood experience with van loading, tally, or dock work.
  • Computer Hardware experience
  • Knowledge of Bar Coding software
  • Warehouse experience

Duties include: record keeping of product and shipping information, communicating the changing needs with shipping personnel, maintaining a safe forklift and van loading area, coordinating with trucking vendors for pickup needs, and backing up personnel as needed.
