Executive Chef Jake Burden
Why Ocean Beauty?
“Ocean Beauty’s customer service is KEY. The sales staff at Ocean Beauty takes extra steps to make sure that I am taken care of. They are local. They have access to the freshest seafood available to me. They always keep me informed of changing market conditions and upcoming seasons. Other seafood companies have tried to get my business. I am sticking with Ocean Beauty.”
Some people grow up, decide to take a crack at culinary school and maybe succeed at becoming a chef. But not JAKE BURDEN. “Cooking is a passion that I have had ever since I can remember.” I learned to cook from my Grandmother. From age 3, I was measuring and stirring. By age 5, I was actually helping her prepare meals for family gatherings”.
Chefs can put together recipes. Jake, however, creates. He has a true” instinct” on how different flavors and textures should come together to make a delicious creation. Just like an artist, painting on a canvas, he cooks from the soul…and it shows. “I want to create a euphoric dining experience for my customers”. He loves to work his magic using local seafood, mushrooms, vegetables, and berries.
Jake was born and raised in Tillamook, Oregon. He moved to Portland at age 9, but spent all his childhood summers with his grandparents who lived in Wheeler, Oregon. You might say that say that his roots were firmly planted on the coast.
Jake has been working in the restaurant industry since he was 14. After working in Portland & Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Jake came back to the beautiful Oregon Coast in 2001. Before the opening of Twisted Fish in 2010, Jake has worked at “The Blue Sky” Manzanita, OR, “Currents” in Nehalem, OR (which he also owned), and “42nd Street”, in Seaview, Wa.
“When I was given the opportunity to be involved in creating the foundation of Twisted Fish’s menu, I had a vision to do something that Seaside has never seen”. All recipes are uniquely, Jake. The dining room has a warm romantic feel. The lounge is equipped with a state of the art sound system, perfect for hosting live bands, DJ’s, and Karaoke. It also has several TV’s playing about every sporting event that you could think of.
Twisted Fish is locally owned by Tom and Mark Utti. It has been busy for this Father & Son team over the past few years. After opening The Twisted Fish, they set their sights on revamping another Seaside restaurant. In the summer of 2012 they opened Finn’s Restaurant. They are also the owners of Fultano’s Pizza in Seaside, and Funland.
Jake has been busy too. When he is not working, he loves to golf. However, his number ONE passion is his children. Harbor (6) & Aspen (5), are “the loves of his life”…But wait, coming in May of 2013 there is a baby boy on the way!!!! (In Chef’s terms: ONE IN THE OVEN). Congratulations Jake, on your new addition and for making the Twisted Fish, Ocean Beauty’s Customer of the month.
