Ocean Beauty's
Petersburg Production Facility produces Ikura, Sujiko, and canned
salmon, as well as Chum, Coho and Sockeye salmon for both fresh
and frozen markets. The Petersburg plant usually operates from
late June to mid-September, employing up to 250 people from all
over the United States and Mexico.
The Tlingits were the only inhabitants
of Petersburg until Norwegians migrated to the fishing village
a century ago. While the year-round population is only 3300, nearly
40,000 tourists visit Petersburg annually.
Ocean Beauty employees like to
spend their leisure hours hiking Raven's Roost, eagle watching
at Eagle's Roost, halibut fishing, whale watching and dining at
Petersburg's many restaurants. |
