A Brief History of Ocean Beauty

1906 — A future Ocean Beauty distribution location, Portland Fish Company opens on the Portland wharf.
1910 — Ocean Beauty is founded as Washington Fish & Oyster in Seattle, Washington.
1930s — Alaska processing operations begin.
1948Spokane Distribution opens.
1954 — Ocean Beauty is the first seafood company to portion and vacuum pack Alaska steaks and fillets.
1956Pocatello Distribution opens.
1957Boise Distribution opens.
1960s — The Kodiak facility is purchased to process species from Alaska's central gulf, including salmon, cod, halibut, herring and pollock.
1964Helena Distribution opens.
1978 — The Cordova plant on Prince William Sound is built, where Ocean Beauty processes world-famous Copper River salmon, as well as Coho salmon, cod and herring.
1982Astoria and Salt Lake City distribution locations open.
1984 — The Petersburg facility is acquired, which includes canning and freezing capacity for Southeast Alaska salmon, herring, black cod, halibut and crab. Seattle Distribution opens.
1988 — Ocean Beauty purchases the Naknek plant, a seasonal operation that processes red salmon and herring.
1994Tribe of Two Sheiks becomes the number one selling brand of hummus in America.
1995 LASCCO and Three Star Smoked Fish Company, both leading processors of smoked fish products, are acquired and become a specialty division of Ocean Beauty. Distribution locations in Astoria, Boise, Helena, Pocatello, Portland, Salt Lake City, Seattle and Spokane adopt the Ocean Beauty name.
1999 — A Boston-based smoked fish processor, Rite Foods, is purchased and becomes a division of Ocean Beauty.
2000 — A Monroe, WA-based smoked fish processor, Circle Sea, is purchased and becomes a division of Ocean Beauty.
2001Landlock Seafood One of the largest processors and wholesale distributors of fresh and frozen seafood in the southwest United States is purchased and becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Ocean Beauty.
2003Cook Inlet Processing, Alitak and Excursion Inlet Production facilities are purchased and become wholly owned subsidiaries of Ocean Beauty.
2004 — Ocean Beauty's newest distribution office opens in Phoenix and Commander, Port Clyde and Neptune brands are purchased.
2005 — Rite Foods relocates from Boston to Taunton, Massachusetts.
